Step 2

Inoculate Coffee Grounds

2

Inoculate Coffee Grounds

Add the coffee ground and oyster mushrooms spawn to your jars to begin incubation.

Instructions

Inoculate Coffee Grounds

Now that your jars are sterilized, it's time to mix the coffee grounds and mushroom spawn together.

Spray Contents with Alcohol

For one last line of contamination defense, spray the mason jars, spoons, coffee grounds container, and mushroom spawn container with 70% alcohol and allow them to air dry.

Add Coffee Grounds

Pressure cooking your mason jars can cause the lids to tighten significantly. If you can't open the lid with your hands, use a spoon to pop the lid open. Place the spoon in the tightest seam between the lid and jar and slowly push the lid up.

Open the lid to the coffee grounds and scoop it into the mason jar until it's about halfway full.

Add Oyster Mushroom Spawn

If your mushroom spawn is inside a mason jar, try to break its contents up by shaking it against something soft like your hand or a towel.

Next, open the spawn and pour it into the mason jar until the top of the coffee grounds is covered. Add the lid to the mason jar, tighten it, and shake it to mix the spawn and coffee grounds.
