Adding Rye Grain

Now that your jars are ready, it's time to add your rye grain.

Pour Rye Grain in Each Jar

Add a little less than one cup (or 180 g) of rye grain to each jar. This amount is less than usual, so we can leave room for you to add the inoculated grain later.

Then, add 2/3 cup (160 mL) of water to each jar. Add the lid and screw back on the lid ring, but make sure not to tighten it too hard.

Add Lid and Foil

Put the poly-fil-stuffed lids back on each jar. Then, cut out an 8 x 8-inch square of aluminum foil for each jar and securely cover each top.

Wrap Tools in Foil

Also, wrap a spoon in aluminum foil and add this to the pressure cooker later. After pressure cooking, you'll likely need a spoon to help open the mason jars.
